A Slice of Heaven (Part 2) - Beer Bread & Buns

For Part 2 in this  series   I decided to indulge into two other favorite bread recipes, that's is not just dynamic, but delicious and wholesome.  Beer bread and Buns.  In recent times it has been difficult to bake beer bread, and I don’t like to mention Covid 19 (hold my beer), but we were unable to purchase any alcohol as the government imposed an alcohol ban in our country.  This in turn inhibited me to bake or create anything that contained alcohol, especially our family favorite - beer bread.   Banned? The ban was lifted then imposed then lifted, then imposed again,  so when we had the chance to buy any beer (and there weren’t many - I am an Essential Worker), we had to jump to the opportunity. This meant that standing in a long queue with short frustrations was the new normal.   A slice of  Heaven Alas! I was able to get the ingredients for my recipe and then I created a slice of heaven.   That first slice was heaven, to...

Delicious Pumpkin Hummus: Farm to Table Part 2

Part 2

Farm to Table - The concept of serving meals, where the ingredients are locally sourced from farms. Everything on the table is from the ground and surrounding farmers.

Growing your own vegetables and herbs is a rewarding exercise,  and the quality is reflected in the love and care you invest into your garden.  We are in the fortunate position to receive most of our produce from the family farm up north.  This enables us to do so much more with our food.  It's also much fresher than store bought and 100% organic.

Supporting local farmers and markets creates sustainability in a community.  This gives a town a fair chance to grow and thrive.

Oooh... Spooky !

Pumpkin season is upon us, and so is Halloween.  Nearly every house is decorated with everything & anything, while Jack-o-lanterns are smiling at little kids and families out Trick or Treating.  Here in South Africa, we do not really celebrate Halloween and slowly but surely it's creeping into our lives.  Markets are filled with pumpkins of all different shapes and sizes.

So Simple

Pumpkin Hummus is something so simple and easy to make.  The best part is that it takes so little time and can be stored in the fridge for almost up to two weeks.  With most of the ingredients at home, it's convenient to whip out a batch of hummus; whether it's for an entrè, side dish or even a platter.
